Singer/Songwriter Legende Jackson Browne veröffentlicht am 29. Mai 2020 zwei neue Songs „Downhill from Everywhere“ und „A Little Soon to Say“ als Maxi-CD, Vinyl-EP und als Download/Stream. Beide Singles sind Auskopplungen aus seinem neuen Studio-Albums, dass für den 9. Oktober 2020 angekündigt ist. An diesem Tag wird der in Heidelberg geborene Browne 72 Jahre alt.
Leider hat der COVID-19 Virus auch ihn in Mitleidenschaft gezogen. Am 24. März berichtete der US-Rolling Stone, dass Jackson Browne positiv getestet worden ist. Der Krankheitsverlauf wurde von seinem Management als mild bestätigt und mittlerweile ist er wieder wohlauf. Allerdings mussten die angekündigte US-Tourdaten von Jackson Brownes mit James Taylor auf 2021 verschoben werden. Live-Termine in Europa sind noch nicht bestätigt.
“A Little Soon to Say” hat Browne bereits vor der Pandemie geschrieben und er fand eine Veröffentlichung zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt mehr als passend: “But whether everything will be alright/It’s just a little soon to say.”Der Song wurde von den Fridays-For-Future Aktivisten und der Umwelt inspiriert. „Ich dachte an diese Generation - die Parkland-Studenten und Greta Thunberg und die jungen Leute, die sehr lautstark waren und sagten:‚Sie machen keinen wirklichen Versuch, die Dinge so zu ändern, dass wir den Planet behalten, den Sie hatten.‘“
An „Downhill From Everywhere“ hat Browne fast 10 Jahre lang gearbeitet. Das Lied wurde im Trailer zu einem kommenden Dokumentarfilm ‚The Story of Plastic‘ vorgestellt, der am Earth Day im Discovery Channel Premiere hatte. Der Film beschreibt die Plastikkrise und die Umweltverschmutzung auf drei Kontinenten - und die verheerenden Auswirkungen auf den Planeten. Browne selbst ist Mitglied des Executive Advisory Board der Plastic Pollution Coalition, einer Allianz, die eine Zukunft ohne Einwegkunststoff anstrebt. „Diese Bewegung hat viel Aufmerksamkeit und Unterstützung erhalten, weil sie jetzt so sichtbar ist. Es ist nicht länger etwas, das unter den Teppich gekehrt werden kann“, sagt Browne dazu.
Für ihn hat auch die Corona-Pandemie einen positiven Effekt: „Die Leute haben einen Eindruck davon bekommen, wie es ist, keinen Smog zu haben", sagt er. "Die Natur hat eine Pause bekommen und diese ist sichtbar. Die Leute sagen plötzlich: ‚Oh ja, so ist es, wenn der Himmel klar ist und Vögel singen!‘ Freunde in Spanien sagten mir: ‚Wir haben Delfine schwimmen gesehen, und das sehen wir nie.‘ “Die natürliche Welt ist irgendwie zurückkommen. Wir werden sehen, wie lange das anhält.“

Jackson Browne has written and performed some of the most literate and moving songs in popular music and has defined a genre of songwriting charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2007.
Except for a brief period in NYC in the late 1960s, Jackson has always lived in Southern California. His debut album came out on David Geffen's Asylum Records in 1972. Since then, he has released fourteen studio albums and four collections of live performances. Jackson is currently working on a new studio album, set for release on October 9, 2020. On May 15, 2020, he is releasing two new singles.
Browne is known for his advocacy on behalf of the environment, human rights, and arts education. He's a co-founder of the groups Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE) and Nukefree.org and a member of the Ocean advocacy group, Ocean Elders.
In 2002, he was the fourth recipient of the John Steinbeck Award, given to artists whose works exemplify the environmental and social values that were essential to the great California-born author.
He has received Duke University's LEAF award for Lifetime Environmental Achievement in the Fine Arts, and both the Chapin-World Hunger Year and NARM Harry Chapin Humanitarian Awards. In 2004, Jackson was given an honorary Doctorate of Music by Occidental College in Los Angeles, for "a remarkable musical career that has successfully combined an intensely personal artistry with a broader vision of social justice.“
